Z-Subsonic App Reviews

This app is buggy and hasnt been updated since summer of last year. Dont consider zsub till it gets some much needed attention. At this time a competing app, iSub is much more mature and the author is actively supporting it (even has iPad support). I own both, at one time zsub was more mature.. Not anymore.. Author, you listening?

I do not have any experience setting up the Subsonic server, but from what I know about servers, opening firewall ports, and static IPs I can tell you: those have nothing to do with installing Z-Subsonic. Z-Subsonic is a client that accesses up to 5 different Subsonic servers. To install the app, click the blue Purchase button in the top right of the screen. The App store will then download the files to your phone, and the phone will automatically finish the installation. Easy as pie. Using the Z-Subsonic client is as easy as knowing the web address, user name, and password to a Subsonic server. After inputting those in the settings menu, you will have access to the entire servers music library. Could not be easier. This app has never crashed on me, but I have an iPhone 4. It is pretty lame that the iPhone 3G is almost unusable, and I wonder if that is causing the problem. Again, the issue may be unrelated to the app. If the 3G doesnt work with the app then maybe that should be addressed.

Awesome on iPhone/iPod but no iPad. Using another Subsonic client in the meantime. I cant wait for an iPad version because the current client just does everything and more.

Great app! Easy setup. Only issue is fairly occasional crashing. Iphone 4

Best music app out there

I bought this app because it could play from my friends subsonic server. Just the fact that this app makes it possible from the iPhone makes it generally worth buying. But... The interface could use some polishing up. Its not very smart about the servers folder structure (it will show other media like movies available to play, which this isnt made for). Getting what you want to play is clunkier than it needs to be ( again, the UI isnt that great). The biggest problem though, is that it will go through a cd and play a few tracks and then stop. For some reason certain tracks are unplayable while the rest of the cd is. Another big problem is that it will crash to the home screen pretty frequently. If the above issues are solved in an update, this app will be great. Otherwise, I might look to the competitors first.

Bought the app, but couldnt get the software to work on my server. Seems way to complicated!

Inconsistent performance. Sometimes very slow (5 minutes to start playing the song just selected), sometimes it was ok. Played 2 songs, at most, after phone went into lock mode.

This app changed my life!

This works better than the other subsonic client on AppStore. A couple of things that can be improved: 1. I should be able to see all my cached songs without connecting to server. 2. It would be great if cached items could be played in iTunes. If you can get these two issues resolved, this is a superb app.

this by far is the best working app for subsonic servers available at the moment. One thing that I see that could be improved is the ability to have more than 100 songs for your playlist.

No matter what, it gives me an error about my username and password, which have been verified numerous times. The free SubStream app works fine, so it isnt a server or setup issue. Time for a refund.

No need to take up space on your phone with music! Once set up works great! I love it!

...that I had to learn the hard way that this app is half baked. What a waste of $5! The main issue with this app is how it handles folder management. Artists with multiple albums, you might as well want to play their entire discography. Z-Sub cannot file down 1 step of a tree. Your only option is to play or queue all of the artists music. I owned this for 10 minutes before I downloaded iSub and things there are as youd expect from a music player.

Subsonic replaced my simplify and I couldnt be happier. The most reliable music streaming app available. I have all 400+gb of my library at my fingertips at all times. The setup is not as user friendly as a mainstream program install but once its installed its very intuitive. There is a one time fee after trying the server for a month but it is well worth it if you have a large music library you want with you at all times.I recommend this app to everyone, I just hope it sticks around for a while. REEDIT: Sorry, but this program does work as advertised, Many of the 1 star ratings are the result of short comings in the reviewer and not the program. EDIT: Gave it another star. Interface still sub-par, but the program is rock solid! I have been in and around Boston for the last two week streaming to my 3G iPad. It sounds great and keeps streaming in just about every kind of situation. If you have a large music collection, this is the program for you. Sounds great! _____________________________________________________________ Good news - It works. Good news - Large buffer. Good news - Runs WiFi and 3G. Bad news - This "player", Z-Subsonic, is one half of the "product". Those familiar with "ServeToMe" and/or "AirVideo" know that there are two parts to these programs. The "server" and the "player". Z-Sonic is the player. You must also "purchase" (free for the first 30 days) a subscription to "Subsonic". For many, connecting to "Subsonic" must be done manually. This is where most of the problems occur. If you can connect to "Subsonic" the rest is rather smooth sailing. Connect to "Subsonic" before you buy Z-Sonic. Good Luck

I use this app all the time. My 80+GB music library is with me all the time. That being said, it currently crashes on iOS6 on my iPhone4. I will start a thread on the developers web forum and hopefully he can get this fixed soon.
